DUES supports a number of Engineering-based projects, which are not part of the degree course.
These are designed to allow people to work in teams to carry out group practical projects, without the cloud of having to get a good mark hanging over you. This means that they should also be enjoyable.
Visit the DUES wiki for more information

Durham University Solar Car, DUSC, is the flagship student project at Durham. Its primary aim is to develop a solar powered car to race in the biennial World Solar Challenge. This is 3000km race across Australia, from Darwin in the north to Adelaide in the south. The next race is in October 2007.
This is a truly multidisciplinary project, with requirements in most of the Engineering disciplines, inluding Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic, as well as computer programming, from to design, through manufacture, to testing. There is also a need for publicity, raising sponsorship, liasing with current sponors and website management.
It does not matter whether you or in your first year or final year, everyone is welcome to come along to one of our practical sessions which take place:
Mondays from 17.00 in E020 (large Thermo lab)
Wednesdays from 13.45 in E020 (large Thermo lab)
If you cannot make either of these times, but would still like to get involved, then e-mail DUSC.
For more information visit www.dur.ac.uk/dusc or the DUES Wiki.
If there are any other projects you think the Society should become involved in, e-mail DUES. You should outline the project, the number of people likely to be required to make up a group and an estimate of the costs involved.
